Chester-le-Street Amateur Rowing Club
Chester-le-Street Regatta 2006

On Saturday the 22nd May, 2006, Chester-le-Street ARC held a regatta on their home stretch of the river Wear, the first for many years. Over 80 races were staged over a 1000m course finishing at the old road bridge. A number were also staged over a 500m course for younger junior crews (J12 - J14).

Chester-le-Street District Council Chairman Allen Turner presented the prizes to the victorious crews. The silverware included some dusted down trophies  dating from the event's origin in late Victorian times.

The feedback from those taking part and from spectators was extremely good. Another successful regatta followed in 2007, and the regatta has been re-established as an annual event.
