Access to Sport Project

Access to Sport Project
Delivered by the Council, the ATS project is a Sport England funded programme with additional support from the NHS.
Aim
To increase provision of, and access to, sport and physical activity for three main target groups;
· School leavers (age 16-24)
· Women
· Men and Women aged over 45.
How will we do this?
The project will focus on setting up a variety of new activities, in a variety of venues that are accessible to the local community. Identified venues include;
· DCC leisure facilities
· Secondary Schools
· Community Venues
Activities will be appropriately identified and promoted in order to best engage one or more of the three target groups.
The initiative is designed to support the initial growth of new activities through;
· Arranging a qualified coach to deliver the activity
· Identifying/carrying out appropriate marketing and promotion to engage the target audience.
· Providing any equipment that may needed for the activity.
· Covering the costs (i.e. coaching costs/facility hire) for an agreed period of time (usually 6-10 weeks)
Participation will then be sustained through one of the following ways;
· The session becomes self-sustainable (i.e. no longer relies on ASI funding/support) and continues to run as a regular session at that venue.
· Participants are signposted to existing community sessions or local sports clubs.
