Men's Squad

Head Of River Race 2008
Our Men’s squad caters for all levels of rowers, from complete beginner to those who are keen to train and race at local and national events. This season, approximately 15 athletes of varying ability and age are training together in a variety of boat classes. The squad is open to all male rowers regardless of level or experience.
Training
The
squad trains together 5 times a week, but our training programme
includes additional sessions that we fit in around the rest of our
lives. The full programme consists of about 10 sessions a week. The
training is made up of ergo sessions, strength & conditioning
work and training outings on the River Wear. In 2011, our training
programme enabled the squad to field a crew in the Double
Scull Challenge Cup at Henley Royal Regatta.
The crew in question reached the quarter final, losing to the USA
senior crew.
However, if you do not want to train this much, don’t panic! Many of the squad choose to attend the 5 main sessions only. It is entirely up to each athlete as to how many sessions they attend, as we do understand that people have other things to do than going rowing.

attend a wide range of events as a squad, both near and far. The
focus this season has been structured towards the larger events in
the region and in the country.

The winter racing programme usually entails competing at Rutherford Head and Yorkshire Head with other events thrown in for extra racing mileage. The end of the winter Heads season is the Head of the River Race on the Tideway in London, an event that the club has attended in the past and will hopefully be returning to in 2013.
The
summer season will comprise of the squad competing regionally and
nationally with Durham Regatta being the main focus of attention in
the Northern Region. The squad aim to be travelling further afield to
events like Nottingham City Regatta, Master Championships,
Strathclyde Park Regatta and of course, Henley Royal Regatta.
