James
Carew works as a British Rowing coach and is supported by the Henley
Stewards Charitable Trust. James has been working within the Northern
region and more closely with Chester-Le-Street Amateur Rowing Club in
developing the junior age groups and working alongside the current
club coaches.
On
Thursday 31st of May James took part in the London 2012 Olympic torch
bearing through Widnes in the north west of England. After the
successful nomination by his girlfriend Zazel Baker for his voluntary
rowing coaching over a number of years whilst dealing with sever
medical issues, James had been really looking forward to taking part
in this fantastic, once in a lifetime event.
“To
be involved in the run up to the London Olympics is brilliant, it’s
a fantastic opportunity for sports men and women from Great Britain
to shine and I am so lucky to be able to show my support in such a
way!”.
“I
had an awesome experience and it was great to see the local support
coming out to see and cheer the torch along during its journey to the
games”.
James
will now continue his work at the club and hopes that the London
Olympics can show the juniors within the region the heights that with
hard work and commitment they could reach with the sport of rowing.
