On Saturday 28th April Chester-le-Street Amateur Rowing Club had 6 athletes racing on behalf of the Northern region at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta held at the National Water Sports Centre Nottingham.

Unfortunately due to severe weather conditions the event was postponed after the morning races and later cancelled.

Callum Clark was racing for his 3rd and final year in the J16 single sculls and despite the condition's finished 4th in his heat.

Sean Lockyear raced in the J16 double sculls with his partner from St Leonards School Boat Club, they faced tough competition from the South though beat the Western region by well over a minute.

Alex Batty, Chloe Surtees, Evie Harrison & Rachel MacMurtrie were due to race their eight along with two girls from Durham School and 3 girls to include cox from Queen Elisabeth High School. Unfortunately their event was one of the few that did not row at all before the cancellation was announced.

Alex describes her experience:

'The lake was nothing like I expected, it was huge! The waves on the lake were also huge, which meant our race got cancelled. The atmosphere of the other rowers around calmed my nerves as i was able to see that they were also nervous. The amount of people there is amazing, so many people dotting around everywhere. And the amount of boats.. WOW, i dont think i have ever seen as many. Its nice meeting people you have never spoke to and everyone around is so friendly. Nottingham was a great experience, even without racing. And on the plus side, we got a cool t shirt to say we have been' :)
